Spelling to Communicate (S2C) Support
Spelling to Communicate (S2C) is a research-based communication method designed for individuals with motor challenges.
S2C builds purposeful motor skills so a person can point to letters on a letterboard. This provides an alternative way to communicate thoughts, needs, and ideas.
The aim is to build synchrony between the brain and body, helping individuals move from unreliable or absent speech toward meaningful communication.
S2C is taught by trained practitioners, and practised by trained communication regulation partners. With consistent practise, learners progress through structured stages of skill acquisition, allowing them increasing levels of freedom of expression until they reach open communication, when they can express every thought they have.

Who Can S2C Help?
S2C is suitable for individuals aged 5 and over who are:
- Non-speaking
- Minimally speaking
- Unreliably speaking
Many of the individuals who are now able to openly communicate were previously assumed to have significant learning disabilities.
